Call to Action

Imagine the possibilities for our city if hundreds of people united to participate in small initiatives to transform our city?

100 In 1 Day is a global festival that activates citizen-led initiatives in public spaces across a city. Originating in Bogota, Colombia, and spreading to cities across the globe, the festival inspires residents to carry out one hundred or more thoughtful and playful interventions to transform public space and spark positive change.

Thanks to the support of United Way Ottawa, Synapcity is launching the 100 In 1 Day festival in Ottawa this year. The festival date is June 3rd. Given Canada’s 150th anniversary, our goal is to inspire over 150 one-day interventions to animate a wide-range of public spaces.

Interventions are activities such as street art projects, free outdoor music performances, flash mob events, community picnics, community bike rides, temporary art installations, pop-up parks, guerilla gardening projects, neighbourhood walking tours, and so much more. 100 In 1 Day is a festival of possibility, and interventions reflect the diverse interests and passions of individuals and community groups across the city.

The festival offers an opportunity to connect with others and contribute to Ottawa’s city-building initiatives. It’s a day that unites individual efforts and showcases a passionate community that seeks to improve the city through art, design, cultural exchange, environmental efforts, sports and other activities.

As a lead up to June 3rd, Synapcity will be hosting free workshops across the city to help spark ideas and assist individuals and groups to plan activities and network with like-minded organizations.

We need your help to make 100 In 1 Day Ottawa a big success. We are looking for volunteers to help organize, promote and co-lead workshops. If that sounds like something you’d like to do, please get in touch (christine@synapcity.ca).

We’re also looking for organizations and community leaders to spread the word and motivate others to jump in.

By mid-March the 100 In 1 Day Ottawa website will be up and running to register your intervention and track interventions that are being planned across the city.

Check our website often for updates and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Gather your friends, neighbours and colleagues and start planning your intervention today!
