Ottawa Tool Library

If I had a hammer. That was Bettina Vollmerhausen’s wish.

Motivated by what she learned at Synapcity's Civic Boot Camp, Bettina created the Ottawa Tool Library.

Borrow. Be empowered. Get inspired. Just like Bettina.

“As a participant of the Synapcity Civics Boot Camp, I gained an understanding of how citizens can participate in building the kind of city they want to live in. During Boot Camp, there is ample time to listen to experts, exchange and discuss ideas with people and build confidence in being able to shape the city we live in. It was an amazing experience riddled with fun, fabulous people with heart and the desire to drive innovation in Ottawa.”

The Ottawa Tool Library is an example of innovation. As a tool lending library members have access to over 1,600 tools in four categories: hand tools, power tools, garden tools, and kitchen tools. In doing so, the Ottawa Tool Library gives residents and community groups everything they need to make projects happen.

The Ottawa Tool Library also empowers. The people behind the organization believe there is loads of creativity flowing inside everyone and, with a little help from the tool library, they can tackle with ease and excitement any number of do-it-yourself projects they may have been dreaming of.

It also inspires. The Ottawa Tool Library is a community space for makers to connect and share ideas and skills. There are workshops and demo nights throughout the year where makers, artists, builders and hobbyists can bring to life what is in their imaginations.
