Introducing Synapcity

We're thrilled to introduce our new name, brand and invigorated mission to connect people to improve this city.

In November 2015, as Citizen's Academy, we entered Brand Zero, an initiative by marketing agency, Stiff, to re-brand an Ottawa charitable organization with an irresistible mission deserving of a strong voice.

In 2011, a small group of people got together who shared a vision for Ottawa—a healthy, happy city where people collaborate, share ideas and take actions to make the city better. They wanted to inspire progressive dialogue for positive change between disparate groups: the City, its people and civil society.

“We had no idea if we’d be successful. We didn’t know if we would survive. We could have never imagined the support we have received over the past five years,” said Manjit Basi, Executive Director and Co-Founder. 

“Every workshop we have run since we began were full. The dialogues created humbled every participant and the co-creation that happened had a multiplying effect of empowerment.”

In late 2015, Citizens Academy won a re-brand competition and began working with Ottawa-based communications agency, Stiff, and today we have relaunched as Synapcity.

This new brand aims to reach a wider circle of people within Ottawa, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their goals for our city—whatever these goals may be.

In addition, Synapcity was recently awarded one of the largest grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Watch this video where Hon. Yasir Naqvi, MPP, Ottawa Centre, discusses the grant and his support for Synapcity.

This grant will help Synapcity to continue to provide learning resources, tools and an empathetic environment to enable positive, lasting change in Ottawa. And in turn help people of all backgrounds find their voice and channel their energy into improving our city for all.
